PNG is the go-to format for logos, icons, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background. The good news is that WebP supports a full alpha channel too, so transparent PNGs convert to transparent WebP files with no white boxes or fringing.
Where PNG often produces large files, WebP usually makes them dramatically smaller — especially for screenshots, illustrations and UI exports with large flat areas of colour.
PNG is always lossless, which keeps quality perfect but can mean big files. WebP can be either: keep the quality slider high (90–100) for pixel-perfect graphics and sharp text, or lower it for photographs saved as PNG to save even more space. For most screenshots, a high setting still produces a much smaller file than the original PNG.
If you publish documentation, design portfolios, or app screenshots, converting PNG to WebP can cut page weight substantially while keeping crisp edges and transparency. And because everything runs locally, even sensitive screenshots never leave your device.
